HeXen - Entrevista (ENG)

HV- Hexen as born in 2003 (am I right ?), tell to the people who doesn´t know you, how you define yourselves in terms of sound.

Hexen – Yes, 2003-2004 was when the band had its beginnings. From the start, Hexen sought to define itself as Melodic Thrash metal. In the last decade, we have kept thrash and melody at our core while continuously refining our sound to accommodate more complex styles of metal.
The diverse sound however is result of the evolving writing style, which although lends itself to more progressive forms of music, is still rooted in thrash metal.

HV-  You launch this year your second album “Being and Nothingness”. Do you have listen opinions about this new album? The opinions are good or bad?

Hexen – Opinions about the new album vary by expectations. A lot of people wanted pure thrash out of us this time around, and that’s actually what most people expected. However, the true fans of the music, even if they expected more thrash ala “State Of Insurgency” are highly pleased by the more extreme metal direction taken on “Being And Nothingness” Of course, we welcome all opinions and critique, but highly recommend that listeners exercise a bit of objectivity when analyzing the band’s decisions and not hold us to limiting standards.

HV- Talk a little about your lyrical influences in the songs of the new album.

Hexen - “Being And Nothingness” is a concept, but not a concept album. It is a broad theme that could be simplified to represent dichotomous relationships, but is actually far deeper than that when considering Andre’s introspective lyrics.
Much of his writing in this domain reflects his philosophy on existence and is a type of personal expressiveness that is present on many tracks.
Much of the influence derives from our favorite bands’ writing styles, namely Death because Chuck was great at applying short phrases over long pieces of music, long phrases over short songs, etc.

As far as our subject matters go, there is a strong correlation between the album’s title and the lyrical content, which is intelligently connected to the music. In addition to the personal philosophical writing, there are some songs that contain more topical lyrics in nature, like “Grave New World” which is about the advancement of technology and its effects on human nature, and “Defcon Rising” which is about the empirical qualms of western modes of governance. “Walk As Many, Stand As One” is similar in scope, while “Indefinite Archetype” is about occultism and does well to support the album’s overall mood. You could get a sense of what inspired these lyrics just by listening to the music and words together.

HV-  You already has many concerts scheduled?

Hexen – We are working on that. We have shows schedule here in Southern California and you’re welcome to visit!

HV-  What was the best concert you ever played ?

Hexen – Every member, past and present is going to have a different answer. Although we could all agree that we were probably our tightest live when we toured the States in 2010.

Here is a great example from when we played in the state of Idaho:

Definitely one of the best concerts we ever played, and we were fortunate to have it captured!

HV-  Do you guys have plans for the future?

Hexen – Yes: to continue to write and record quality metal. That is our mission as a band.

HV- Do you have plans to come to Portugal in the future?

Hexen- If we come to Europe, why not? We would love to play for your country in the future. Circumstances must be accounted for before we leave our country (i.e. families, jobs, etc.). Not to mention, the tour of Europe itself has to be planned well, so as to cover all of the right areas in an appropriate fashion.

HV- Do you want to leave any message for the people who see High Voltage website?
